On June 4, we had the privilege of gathering at COLLOQUE 2026, organized by Le RÉSEAU, for a day of rigorous and wide-ranging scholarly exchange at the intersection of sport, physical education, and pressing societal challenges.
Célia Kingsbury and Tegwen Gadais opened with a thought-provoking presentation on Sport, Physical Activity and Physical Education vs. Climate Change: Impacts and Consequences — examining how our field is being reshaped by the climate crisis, and what responsibilities practitioners and researchers must now shoulder.
kazem Hozhabri built directly on that foundation with a presentation on Physical activity professionals’ needs regarding climate change-related risks — bringing a practical, field-level lens to the question of how those working in sport and physical activity can be better equipped to navigate an increasingly uncertain environmental landscape.
Florent Lefèvre offered a compelling historical counterpoint with Quebec in motion: from the dispersal to the emergence of a sports, educational and outdoor Quebec system (1960–1970) — a reminder that the institutions we now rely on were hard-won, and that understanding their origins matters for how we adapt them to future challenges.
Finally, Umair Asif presented his PhD project on Sport and Violent Extremism Prevention in Pakistan — a powerful inquiry into how sport can serve as a lever for peace-building and social cohesion in high-risk contexts, extending our field’s reach well beyond its traditional boundaries.
Four presentations. Four distinct lenses. One shared conviction: that sport, physical activity, and physical education have a critical role to play in the most urgent questions of our time.
Thank you to all presenters and to Le RÉSEAU for this enriching gathering.
