About Kola Adeosun

Dr Kola Adeosun is a Nigerian-British scholar and Senior Lecturer in Sport and Social Sciences at Southampton Solent University, United Kingdom. His research examines the relationship between sport, governance and international development, with particular interests in sport for development and peace, athlete care, geopolitics and the role of sport in
addressing contemporary global challenges. He completed his PhD through comparative research in Trinidad and Tobago, exploring how Paulo Freire's pedagogy can strengthen Sport for Development and Peace practice by promoting dialogue, empowerment and community-led social change. Working alongside the Caribbean Sport Development Agency, his research examined how sport can contribute to
education, health, social inclusion and the integration of migrant communities through locally grounded approaches. Alongside his academic work, Kola is committed to supporting the development of sport across Africa, particularly in Nigeria, through research, policy engagement and international collaboration. He is Conference Lead for the 2027 European Association for Sociology of
Sport (EASS) Conference.
