University of York, United Kingdom
Dr Matthew Holmes is a Lecturer at the University of York (United Kingdom) in the subject group for Management and Organisation Studies at the School for Business and Society. His research interests lie in the organisation and delivery of sport for development and peace (SDP) programmes in urban and rural community settings in the global South. He is interested in how SDP programmes widen young peoples access to education, health-related knowledge, and income generating opportunities and how these programmes reduce poverty by addressing gender, education, and health-related inequality. Matthew has more specific research interests that include understanding local nongovernmental organisations (NGOs) SDP programme delivery in community settings from the view of local practitioners. His research has examined the organisation and delivery of 15 SDP programmes by three local SDP NGOs in the context of Zambia from the perspective of local practitioners.
