This review, following the PRISMA framework, takes stock of the existing SDP literature and raises several critical issues. First, current research does not yet demonstrate beyond doubt the capacity of sport to contribute to development, peace, or the achievement of the Sustainable Development Goals, largely due to persistent methodological limitations. Second, the field remains heavily Anglo-centric, pointing to the need for more inclusive frameworks that reflect diverse cultural understandings and practices of sport. Third, SDP scholarship must evolve toward more complex and context-sensitive analyses, particularly engaging with questions of decolonization and North–South relations.
This publication is part of an ongoing series of literature reviews. More to come, stay tuned.
